Fetoscopic Laser Coagulation: Treatment of Twin-To-Twin Transfusion Syndrome
Kim Eun-Na

Jun Jong-Kwan
Abstract
Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a severe complication occurring in 10-15% of monochorionic twin pregnancies. This disease is developed due to unbalanced chorionic blood transfer from the donor twin to the recipient twin through placental anastomoses. If left untreated, TTTS is associated with very high perinatal mortality and morbidity rates. The best treatment of cases presenting before 26 weeks of gestation is fetoscopic laser ablation of the intertwin anastomoses on the chorionic plate. Appropriate perinatal set-up is critical not only for surgical management but also for the follow-up and management of related complications.
